The Regional Workshop on national sustainable development strategies for the Arab region, 12-14th December 2004, Cairo House, Cairo

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs - Division for Sustainable Development (UNDESA-DSD) in cooperation with the Government of Egypt convened the above workshop. The objectives of the Regional Workshop on NSDS were to:

• provide participants with an in-depth view of the process involved with the development and implementation of national sustainable development strategies, including technical aspects;
• build inter-regional and national capacity for managing progress towards sustainable development through cooperation, networking and exchange of experiences and lessons learned in NSDS;
• provide options for decision-making through monitoring and assessment of sustainable development at the national level, including through the use of indicators.

As a consulting advisor to the UNDESA-DSD, Mr. Mersie Ejigu, President & CEO of PAES made two presentations at the Workshop: (i) Assessing Sustainable Development Strategies - An Expert Feedback; and (ii) Linking National Sustainable Development Strategies and Indicators of Sustainable Development.
